Sonnenberg Gardens and Mansion State Historic Park

Nestled in Canandaigua, New York, Sonnenberg Gardens is a historic estate and botanical garden that transports visitors to different parts of the world. The estate was the home of Frederick Ferris Thompson, a wealthy banker, and his wife Mary Clark Thompson, a generous philanthropist and passionate gardener. They built a 40-room Queen Anne-style mansion and created nine themed gardens inspired by their global travels.

The gardens range from a serene Japanese garden with a pond and a tea house, to a colorful Italian garden with statues and fountains, to a fragrant rose garden with more than 2,500 varieties of roses. Visitors can explore the gardens and the mansion on guided or self-guided tours, or attend special events and programs throughout the year.
